This Week’s Colmcille GFC Club Notes


Match Results:
Congratulations to our minors who won in Round 5 of the Minor Football Championship against Ballymahon Forgney Carrick Sarsfields last Tuesday, with a final score of 4-15 to 1-08.

Hard luck to our U16s who lost out in Round 3 of the U16 Football Championship against Northern Gaels last Friday, with a final score of 4-09 to 3-17.

Well done and congratulations to our U12 team who wrapped up the season in style by winning the Granard U12 Festival of Football! A big thank you to St Marys GAA Granard for hosting such a well-organised and enjoyable day of football. It was a brilliant day all around!

Commiserations to our Ladies’ team who lost out in the championship semi-final to Mullinalaghta Ladies in a cagey game in Fr. McGee Park on Sunday 22nd with a score line of 1-05 to 1-07. Well done to the ladies on a good year and hopefully something to build upon for next year with lots of potential in the team.

Upcoming Fixtures:
Best of luck to our junior team who take on Grattán Og in the Semi Final of the Junior A Football Championship on Sunday at 2:15 pm in Glennon Bros Pearse Park. Best wishes to the team and management.

Best of luck to our senior team who will take on Mullinalaghta in the Longford SFC Semi Final on Sunday at 4 pm in Glennon Bros Pearse Park. His game is the second part of a doubleheader with our juniors before it. Best wishes to both of our teams as we hope to reach two county finals!

50/50 Draw:
Our 50/50 Draw took place last Monday, the 16th in Paddy’s Bar. We want to thank everyone who participated in the draw. Congratulations to Rachel Murphy, the lucky winner of our €1,675 jackpot. Also, congratulations to Rose Mulligan & Leanne Early who both won €100 and also to Angela McNerney who won 5 free entries for the next draw. You can enter the 50/50 draw by purchasing envelopes at any local shop or pub or by entering online. The link can be found on any of our social media platforms.

Club News:
We are looking for people to participate in Scór in the following categories: Figure Dancing, Set Dancing, Solo Singing, Ballad Group, Recitation, Novelty Act, Instrumental, and Quiz. It is a great way to get involved with the club, build confidence, and showcase the wide variety of talents the young people of our parish have to offer! The Scór na nÓg competition is for young people who were aged under 17 on the 1st of January 2024. At the moment, it is set to take place on the weekend of the 8th of November. Contact Grace at 0877962558 for more information on how to get involved.

Longford Sports Partnership is hosting two Sports Taster Events this September, open to all skill levels. The first event is on 24th September at St. Mary’s Community Campus, Edgeworthstown, featuring badminton, pickleball, table tennis, and volleyball from 7-9 PM. The second event is on 28th September at The Mall, Longford, for ages 5-12. It’s free, but spaces are limited. Equipment is provided, and no experience is needed. Register early to secure your spot! A big thank you to Hall Transport for generously sponsoring our minors with training gear, including togs, socks, 1/2 zips, and tops. Our minors will be well kitted out to play in the Glenn Brady Championship Cup Final on 5th October in Pearse Park!

Condolences:
Colmcille GFC would like to extend our condolences to the family of Donal Brady, Longford Town, who passed away on the 16th September and also to the family of Pat Brady, Longford Town (Smear), who passed away on the 21st September. Ar dheis Dé go Raibh a nAnam.
