Club News:
A massive congratulations to Mark and Lynn Kiernan on the birth of their baby boy, Sonny Kiernan. Mark, a long-serving goalkeeper and current selector with our senior team, has given tremendous service to Colmcille down through the years, and we wish the whole family every happiness and health.
Best of luck to Colmcille Ladies who present “Farmers and Fairies” this Friday, May 31st, as part of the annual Brian Boru Festival. It promises to be a fun-filled evening of entertainment, so please come out and show your support for both the event and our club’s brilliant participants!
Well done to our Under-10 girls team who took part in their first blitz of the year at Fr. McGee Park. The girls played some fantastic football in matches against Sean Connolly’s and Mullinalaghta. A big thank you to coaches Caroline Doyle, Ruth Jones, and Rebecca Murphy for their dedication, and to Nessa Farley and Shauna McCabe for stepping up to referee the games on the day.
With state exams fast approaching, we want to wish the very best of luck to all our members and players sitting the Junior and Leaving Certificate this week.
Our senior team bounced back from a midweek defeat with an impressive 2-17 to 0-13 victory away to Rathcline in Round 7 of the Division 1 League. It was a strong team performance that keeps us right in contention at the top of the table. Earlier in the week, we hosted Clonguish in Round 6 but were edged out by three points, with the final score reading Colmcille 1-11 to Clonguish 0-17. Plenty of positives to take from both outings as the league campaign is beginning to finish up.
Looking ahead to this weekend, our Division 3 team are in action on Sunday, June 1st as they welcome Granard to Fr. McGee Park. Throw-in is at 12:00 noon – come along and support the lads!
Our Division 5 team were awarded a walkover win against Fr. Manning Gaels in what would have been Round 1 of their league campaign. They’ll be looking forward to finally taking the field this Wednesday, May 28th, at home to Abbeylara. Throw-in at Fr. McGee Park is at 8:00pm, with Padraig McKenna officiating.
Our Under-16 boys advanced to the Division 2 Shield Final after a solid semi-final win over Killoe Óg, finishing 2-11 to 1-5 in Fr. McGee Park. They now face Grattan Gaels in the final this Tuesday, May 27th at 7:00pm in Dunbeggan. Best of luck to the lads and their coaches in a bid to secure some silverware!
Our Under-12s continued their excellent form last week with a dominant 0-38 to 0-1 victory over Clonbroney. Their next outing in Phase 2 of the league comes this Friday, May 30th at home to Grattan Gaels. Throw-in is at 7:00pm in Fr. McGee Park with Padraig McKenna again on the whistle.
Everyone at Colmcille GFC is saddened to hear of the passing of John Caulfield in London. John proudly wore the Colmcille jersey throughout the 1950s and 60s and also represented Longford at county level. He later continued his footballing journey with St. Eirns in London. We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and former teammates. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
All at Colmcille GFC extend our sincere condolences to the O’Hara family, Mostrim GAA, and the wider Edgeworthstown community on the untimely passing of Alan O’Hara. Alan was a dedicated clubman and a well-respected footballer across the county. Many within our own club had the honour of playing against him, and his loss will be deeply felt. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and teammates at this difficult time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
