This Week’s Colmcille GFC Club Notes


50/50 Draw:
Our 50/50 Draw took place last Monday, the 24th in Murtagh’s Bar. We want to thank everyone who participated in the draw. Congratulations to Paul Murtagh, the lucky winner of our €1,575 jackpot. You can enter next week’s 50/50 draw by purchasing envelopes at any local shop or pub or by entering online. The draw will take place in the Hill Top bar on Monday 31st. The link can be found on any of our social media platforms.

Club News:
On behalf of Colmcille GFC, we extend our congratulations to Aaron Jones, a former player for us up to senior, and his fiancé, Ruth, on their recent engagement. Congratulations from everyone in Colmcille GFC.

Colmcille LGFA are hosting a Mega Easter Hamper Draw. Lines on sale in Smear Stores, Murtagh’s Bar and the Hill Top Bar or from any Colmcille Ladies player or committee member. Please support if possible.

Colmcille GFC has installed a new ball stop net on the lower goals of our training field, a great addition to Fr. McGee Park. A big thank you to everyone who supported the 50/50 draw – your contributions make improvements like this possible. Thanks also to Connor Smith at Fencing Matters for the quality and quick work on the installation.

Congratulations to Colmcille NS mixed team on competing in the first championship match of the year last week versus Scoil Eimear. The team had a great win playing some fantastic football. Congratulations to Finn on being selected as captain for the championship. The team also got to wear their which were made by Masita Spotswear. Thanks to the sponsors Kiernan Bros Tarmac and Christy Madden Carpentry for sponsoring the mixed team jerseys. Thanks to Mr Wallace, Mrs. C Reilly, Ms. Campbell and Mattie Kavanagh for helping with the team on the day.

Our U12 team are excited for our first outing of the year as we take on St. Dominic’s in the Under-12 Mini Football League Phase 1, KMcG Group, Round 1 this Friday, April 4th, 2025, at 19:00 in McGann Park. It’s a great opportunity for our young players to showcase their skills, teamwork, and determination. Best of luck to both teams, and here’s to an enjoyable and competitive start to the season!

A brilliant start to life back in Division 1 as Colmcille came away with a hard-fought 1-14 to 1-10 victory over St. Mary’s Granard in Higginstown. A strong team performance saw the lads rise to the challenge against last year’s champions. A great way to kick off the campaign—well done to the players and management! Also, best of luck to the lads as we face Longford Slashers in Round 2 of the League this Saturday, April 5th, 2025, at 18:00 in Fr. McGee Park. After a strong start to the season, we look forward to another competitive challenge and the chance to build momentum.

Best of luck to Ruairí, Cathal, and Jack as they line out with the Longford team in Round 1 of the Leinster GAA Football Senior Championship this Sunday at 15:30 in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park against Wicklow. Wishing the entire squad and management the very best for a good performance and a winning start to the championship!
